Bio of Speakers:

Ying Becker

Ying is a Vice President of State Street Global Advisors and head of the North America and Global active equity research team for the Advanced Research Center (ARC). She is responsible for the enhancement of proprietary equity selection models and development of new investment strategies using innovative research methods and advanced technologies. Her current research includes developing quantitative equity selection models using behavioral finance and fundamental signals, the application of genetic programming techniques to factor interaction and alpha model development, and optimal portfolio construction with risk management. She is also invited to be an adjunct professor of Brandeis International Business School, where she has been teaching graduate finance courses since 2007. Prior to joining SSgA in 2000, Ying was a senior principal research manager at Polaroid Corporation in charge of developing advanced process technologies.

Ying earned a PhD in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree in finance from Brandeis University. She also holds a BS and MS in chemical engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Ying’s research on genetic programming stock ranking model, socially responsible investing and extreme equity selections, among other specialties, has published in various peer-reviewed journals.

Qi Zeng

Qi is a senior VP and portfolio manager for Acadian, a large quantitative firm in Boston. Previously she worked at Morgan Stanley as a sell-side quantitative analyst for seven years. She holds both a Doctor Degree in Biostatistics from Harvard and she is a CFA charterholder since 2004.

Henry Gu

Henry Gu is a senior associate in WilmerHale. He joined the firm in 2005. Mr. Gu's practice includes patent prosecution, litigation and opinion work in the fields of chemistry and pharmaceuticals.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Gu held an in-house position at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company in Princeton, NJ, where he was responsible for drafting and prosecuting US and foreign patent applications and provided support for patent opinion and IP strategy. Before attending law school, Mr. Gu was a research scientist for Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he designed and synthesized novel organic molecules in numerous drug discovery programs. He is a named inventor on eight US patents or patent applications and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, such as Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Tetrahedron Letters, Organic Letters and Synlett. While in law school, Mr. Gu was editor of the Rutgers Law Review and author of Note, “The Hatch-Waxman Act and the Declaratory Judgment Action: Constitutional and Practical Implications,” 57 Rutgers L. Rev. 771 (2005).

Mr. Gu is a member of American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association and American Chemical Society and is listed in Who’s Who in America.
